About
Edward de Jong (Amsterdam, 1994) studied Fiction Directing at the Nederlandse Filmacademie, graduating in 2023. His films are socially realistic with a comic edge — observational in style, unconventional in structure — and are always driven by a passion for working closely with actors.
His short film Suni (2022) premiered at the Nederlands Film Festival and became one of the first short films in Dutch film history to receive a theatrical release. His graduation film Niks Gebeurd (2023), about the impact of sexual abuse within a family, premiered at the Keep an Eye Filmacademie Festival. His third-year film Per Persoon (2022), a hang-out/screwball comedy about class difference, was selected for Go Short and ShortCutz Amsterdam.
In his first year at the Filmacademie he wrote and directed the pilot episode of the NTR / 3LAB web series Awkward Turtle (2020).
